Why people enquire twice
Because they are shopping. Australians refinanced 162,225 home loans in the June quarter of 2026 according to the ABS, and a borrower comparing lenders fills in more than one form. With brokers arranging 81.6% of new home loans on the MFAA's figures, the same enquirer can also reach two brokers in an afternoon. A campaign that runs several ads for one product will see the same person come through two of them.
What is matched
The check runs on more than the phone number, because people use more than one.
- The verified mobile number, after it has passed SMS verification
- Email address and name, matched loosely enough to catch a typo
- Records already delivered to you under this campaign, and under earlier ones
- Enquiries arriving through different ads in the same campaign
What happens to a duplicate
It is not delivered and it is not billed. If the person's circumstances have changed since the first enquiry, you already hold their record and can judge that yourself. If a duplicate slips through anyway, flag it: the review process is on the page about invalid lead replacement.
Exclusivity depends on this
A lead cannot be exclusive to you if it is also sitting in another broker's CRM under a different campaign name. Duplicate checking is one half of how exclusivity is kept; not selling a shared pool is the other. Both are described under exclusive lead generation.
Who this is not for
A broker who wants every enquiry regardless. Some suppliers will happily send the same person twice and charge twice, and a broker who measures success by record count will prefer them. The check exists for brokers who measure by conversations that go somewhere.
Then delivery
A record that clears verification and the duplicate check goes into your CRM live, described under CRM lead delivery. The whole sequence sits inside one fixed cost per lead, agreed before the campaign runs, with no retainer and no lock in.
